Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween everyone!
Halloween is probably my favorite holiday. There is nothing more fun than getting to dress up as a whole new persona - and even more fun coming up with a costume! To me, it’s always most satisfying to be something original, a little bit unexpected, and something (or somebody) that other people remember.
This year I made my own costume - and all together it...
Slouchy...
Sunday is a day for wearing loose jeans, slouchy tee, and swingy sweater. It also is a day for a HUGE brunch, then home to a romance novel in your pjs and warm tea.
It also is apparently NOT a day to do anything responsible such as opening the huge pile of mail that I had been ignoring through midterms. Oops - guess I will get to that and other work-like things tomorrow (like work).

The big guns...
This morning, in Pittsburgh, it SNOWED. Yes, a prolonged period of time where snow flakes fell from the sky. (Is anyone else confused by the fact that it’s still OCTOBER? Does anyone dream of a white Halloween?)
Reality bites. Time to bring out the big guns….
BOOM. Full length down parka with a hood and everything! Take that winter FALL weather. You don’t scare me (ok...
Back to it...
So right now I’m obsessed with color - which is funny because the outfit I wore today is NOT colorful at all. I think it’s because I just don’t have the colors I want in my closet. I got the J Crew catalogue and now all I can think of is highlighter green paired with leopard and red (sounds weird but I’m telling you - gorgeous) or seafoam green with coral pants and a deep...
Comfy knits...
I seriously can’t wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon my last exam is due, and I will no longer have to worry about having anything due for class (until the next hw assignment in two weeks but whatever, I’ll take a free weekend!). Oh tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow…you’re only a day, away.
Looking forward to some more fun posts when my hw is...
Pretty tough...
It’s a gorgeous day in the ‘burgh today. A little chilly but the sun is shining! Oh, how I love when you stay out all day, Mr. Sun.
Today I finished up my first take-home final - just in time to get cracking on studying for my in-class final (which is tomorrow! uh oh!). I woke up early and headed to the library in this:
It was one of those outfits that just came about without...
Guest Feature: Alli (future fashion blogger and...
I have the most amazing cousins…and TONS of them (how lucky am I?)! One of them in particular is just about the most fashionable girl I know. My cousin Alli has been reading my fashion blog and has agreed (with mom’s approval) to guest post for me this weekend since I am in the awful red-zone of midterm study crunch-time. Miss Alli has been living up north her whole life and...
Tweed professor...
I’m having a blazer moment. This blazer from apparently the only place I shop H&M is amazing. The tweed makes me think of an old college professor…and since I have spent the majority of my week in the library - I’m totally digging it. I think an absent minded professor would totally pair this with some faded blue cords, scuffed brown boots, and a green button down that...
Right in time...
I pretty much ran home today…I wanted to be sure that I could take some photos in natural light. Not to mention beat the ominous rain clouds which have been threatening since noon. Thankfully, my super-high-but-comfy wedge booties allowed me to practically fly home - made it right in the nick of time!!
I’ve had this lace skirt in my closet for probably about a month. I had been...
Cocoon...
Sometimes you just want to wrap yourself in a warm, soft cocoon.
And nothing is better than finding a chic one for $20.
Love.
Cocoon sweater: H&M, Pants: Gap, Earrings: Banana Republic, Cuff: somewhere in Miami, Bag: Target, Sunglasses: Forever 21, Flats: Report via Marshall’s.
A little bit boho...
I got this vest last year for my birthday and it has simply not received enough love from me! It is warm, comfy, and soooo perfect for the 70’s trend that is going on right now. I have been thinking long and hard about how to style it when yesterday I came across an article on the ‘oversized-vest’ trend for Fall. I love it when all signs point in one direction: today was this...
Things I'm loving...
I love the Fall and I’m so excited to be experiencing an official one this year. To keep with the October spirit, thought I would share with you guys some Fall things I’m loving at the moment:
My new heart-eyed pumpkin from a pottery store on the strip (how adorable is she?). She’s sitting on my mantle right now (and she probably will stay there all year long)!
Grey...
Casual Fall layers...
It’s another gorgeous windy day in the ‘burgh! For doing homework and taking breaks, I decided to throw on a bunch of comfy layers instead of creating an ‘outfit’.
A casual side braid is just what this outfit needs…and something else…what could it be?
Cute, sparkly elephant earings!!! How darling are they?
Happy Saturday everyone!
Jeans: Wet Seal,...
Hello there...
Ahhhh…hello there blog readers (real and imaginary). So nice to have some time to write to you again! This week has been filled with crazy homework assignments that get completed right in time for me to work on the next crazy homework assignment. I’m giving myself a little breather tonight though…and although I do have to hit the books a little bit later - right now I’m...
Short on time...
So somehow the middle of the semester has hit and I am smack dab in the middle of MIDTERMS…dun dun dunnnnnn. While the actual midterms don’t start until next week (when we get our take home test BEFORE we have to take our in class test), I am seriously loaded up with homework. Homework that is slow and tedious…but when I find the answers (finally!!) I feel so empowered. Lots...
A gaggle of Giesken girls...
My mom’s side of the family is numerous (she’s one of six) and it just so happens that there are a lot of strong, smart, funny, gorgeous women that were born or have become Giesken’s. They have started a tradition of getting together every year to have some ‘girl time’. Aka we eat, talk about eating, shop, laugh, drink wine, eat, and laugh. This year we were able...
Adornment...
I told my godmother tonight, while discussing accessories, that I think that they don’t have to always be expensive - they just have speak to you.
There are investment pieces, like a great watch (which my aunt has and I can’t wait to copy - (when I get a grown-up job)), and there are fun pendant necklaces which certain style bloggers wear backwards (oops!!). All accessories are...
In keeping with the color theme...
Apparently this week I’m obsessed with the color red in all its forms! Today I went for rusty-brownish-reddish colored tights. Now these are thick sweatery tights - which I needed this morning on my walk into work…but by the time I went to class, I even shed my blazer. Thank you gorgeous fall weather…I could get used to this!
Paired with the almighty wrap-dress (thank you...
Out of my (color) comfort-zone...
So today an amazing thing happened…
THE SUN CAME OUT!!! Oh happy happy day! I could take pictures outside without my raincoat on (hmmm now that I think about it I should have snapped a few with my trench coat but I digress)…THE SUN CAME OUT!! It was above 60!! My apartment was 66 degrees inside when I got home! After three and a half days of rain and coldness (relatively), it is...
Fancy pants times 2...
So it seems like everywhere I look there are beautiful colored trousers/pants/leggings for Fall. My favorite has to be the rusty red color - soooo gorgeous and feels just right for this season. I also have been eyeing a pair of gorgeous corduroy flares that one of my favorite bloggers wore recently (you can check out her awesome outfit here). However, since I am an almost-broke graduate student...
Badass brunch...
‘Baddass’ isn’t usually a word that is used to describe brunch…but I needed a little kick-butt-attitude today when again it was 40 degrees out and RAINING. RAINING!! So not only is it cold, but then you get WET. CK is doing a horrible job of staying warm!
Therefore, I needed some badass in my life to head out into the cold-wet world for brunch with my Mom, brother, and...
A quickie...
I’m running out to pick up my mother for a day of girly fun (yay!!), but I wanted to give you quickie post of what I wore yesterday!
It is getting COLD here in Pittsburgh. Today again its in the 40s/50s and kinda rainy (just looked outside - make that REALLY rainy). I’ve decided Iike sunny waaaaay better than rainy when it’s anywhere below 80.
Yesterday I was having one...
